Oakley Jawbone
how do you disassemble the Oakley jawbone? im asking because i want to paint the frame and arms a custom golde?
The jawbone IS meant to be disassembled. They’re fully customizable.
You’ll need to pop off the nose pieces, just open them like you’re dropping the jaw and keep pushing up, the nose piece will pop off (same procedure as swapping nose pieces).
The ear pieces just twist off. Brace the top of the frame, grasp the ear stem near the hinge and twist towards yourself. They’re designed to pop out if you crash or sit on them.
The jaws detach from the frame and can be swapped for other colors. Unhook the jaws from the nose pieces. Look at the backside of the point where it pivots. That’s a bolt. Taken out, it looks like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200587565116#ht_943wt_1139
The bolt is usually a Torx bolt or an allen head. Remember, left loosey righty tighty. If you torque them the wrong way, you will break the bolts or strip the anchor points. At this point, you’ll need to drill out the bolt and Oakley does not sell extra bolts. You would need to send the Glasses in to have the bolts replaced.
If you paint the frames, make sure you use a water based air brushing paint. If you use a non water based paint, the VOC’s will destroy the nylon based frame (O-matter) by making it very brittle.
